Dog-friendly Cornwall

Falmouth and Cornwall as a whole are a brilliant place to visit with dogs. With so many coastal walks, year-round beaches and welcoming cafés and pubs, your dog will enjoy the holiday as much as you do.

Nansidwell Beach

Tucked away on the coast path between Falmouth and the Helford River, this hidden beach is quiet and dog-friendly all year. Access is by foot, but it’s well worth the walk, a lovely place for dogs to paddle or explore at low tide.

Maenporth Beach

A gently sloping sandy beach just a short drive from Falmouth, with calm waters ideal for swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding. There’s a beach café and the Cove Restaurant nearby for food and drinks. Dog restrictions apply from 10am to 6pm, July 1 to August 31, but it’s a great spot for early morning or off-season walks with your dog.

Flushing Beach

Just across the harbour from Falmouth, this local favourite is open to dogs year-round. It’s a flat walk from the village and great for an easy splash along the shoreline, with views back to Falmouth.

Gyllyngvase Beach

One of Falmouth’s best-loved beaches, dogs are allowed before 10am and after 6pm from 15 May to 30 September. Early morning and evening are a fantastic time to enjoy the sand when it’s quieter and cooler.

Castle Beach & Swanpool Beach

Both beaches have summer restrictions (10am to 6pm from July to August), but are great for off-season or early/late walks. Castle Beach is great for rock-pooling, while Swanpool has a popular coastal café nearby.

Grebe Beach

A peaceful, tree-lined shingle beach near Durgan, perfect for swimming, paddleboarding or a quiet BBQ or picnic. There are no facilities here, so bring your own supplies, and enjoy the tranquillity. Dog-friendly all year round, though access is via a steep path from the nearby car park.

Gylly Beach Café

A local favourite right on the sand at Gyllyngvase Beach. Dogs are welcome throughout the café, both inside and outside, making it a great choice year-round for breakfast, lunch or just coffee and cake after a beach walk.

Sunshine Café & Yoga

A peaceful spot in Penryn that’s all about good vibes and wellbeing. The café serves excellent plant-based food, cakes and coffee, with plenty of space for dogs both inside and out. Combine it with a walk along the river or drop by after a yoga class, a lovely place to relax with your dog.

INDIdog Eatery

A relaxed, modern eatery on Falmouth’s harbourfront. Dogs are welcome everywhere inside and out, with a laid-back atmosphere, friendly staff and great food, perfect for brunch, drinks or a casual dinner.

The Boathouse

An iconic Falmouth pub above the harbour, with views and a very dog-friendly atmosphere inside and out. Great for a casual drink or hearty meal after a walk.

The Front

A popular waterside pub tucked in the corner of Custom House Quay. It’s small, friendly and packed with character, dogs always welcome, and water bowls ready.

Muddy Beach Café

Set right by the river in Penryn, this café is popular with local dog walkers. With plenty of outdoor space, friendly staff and good coffee, it’s a great stop after a riverside walk.

The Verdant Seafood Bar

A laid-back bar with local beer and small plates. Dogs welcome throughout, and staff always friendly to four-legged visitors. Perfect for an early evening drink and a few nibbles.

The Stable

Pizza, pies and cider with a great harbour view. Dogs allowed only on the lower ground floor, inside and out, with plenty of space and a buzzy atmosphere, good for casual dining with a group.

Sulu Brunch House

A hidden gem in Gweek, this relaxed riverside bar and café is known for its friendly vibe, wood-fired pizza nights and great local drinks. Dogs are welcome throughout, and there’s plenty of outdoor seating by the river. Ideal for a chilled stop after visiting the Seal Sanctuary or walking nearby creeks.

Beach House

A relaxed spot right on Swanpool Beach, serving great seafood, tapas and cocktails with sea views. Dogs are welcome inside and out, making it a perfect place to refuel after a beach walk. The friendly team often have treats and water bowls on hand for visiting pups.

A few tips for dog owners

Beach access for dogs can vary with the seasons – always check signage at the beach entrance or the Cornwall Council website for updates.
The South West Coast Path is exposed in places – pack water for your dog, especially on warmer days.
Be aware of livestock when walking through farmland, and keep dogs on leads where needed.
On the coast path, some cliff sections can be steep – keep dogs close for safety.
